The Story Of Shalva
About Shalva Art

The artist behind Shalva is (Rochel) Shalva Weiss. Her specialty is creating unique pieces of art using fabrics, trims, embroidery and other forms of handwork.

In addition to the ‘stock’ pieces she creates on her own, she specializes in producing custom designs to meet the tastes and requirements of the discerning client looking for that special piece – either for their own home or office, or as a one-of-a-kind gift for a special person in their life.

She has produced custom family trees for grandparents, exquisite and personalized challah covers for gifts, and wall hangings to complement a client’s home décor.

After a 34-year career in IT work, Shalva was looking for a change. She wanted to use her creativity and life-long interest in fabrics and design to bring beauty and meaning into the contemporary Jewish home. Shalva learned to sew at a young age, and has always been interested in using fabrics, trim, beading, and other embellishments to create beautiful designs. Her family often comments that she is a “kid in a candy store” as soon as she walks into a fabric or trim shop.
When creating a piece, Shalva always looks to imbue that item with meaning. Whether by incorporating the words of our Sages or depicting something that alludes to the deeper meaning behind the piece, she always strives to bring depth and meaning to her creations.

In her first career, Shalva served as an IT specialist for a Fortune 500 company. She designed, implemented, and managed critical systems that were used company wide. In that role, Shalva was required to lead teams that customized systems to the individual needs of various business units, and to then see the projects through to completion. The organization, communication, and thoroughness needed to see the projects through became some of her trademark skills, which she brings with her to Shalva. She will work with a discerning client designing a work of art that will reflect his/her tastes and needs.

Shalva art is unique. While with standard art, while the artist spends lots of time creating the original artwork, copies can be produced with little effort. With Shalva’s fabric art, each limited edition copy requires the same investment of time and effort to create the exquisite and eye-catching artwork.
